Mumbai: Marking a historic milestone in its journey, the Chamber of Tax Consultants (CTC) organized a prestigious Honorary Membership Conferment Ceremony as part of its centenary initiative, Shatabdi Manthan. The event celebrated 100 years of the institution’s contribution to taxation, accounting, legal practice, and allied professional fields while recognizing individuals whose work has significantly shaped India’s legal and professional landscape.

The ceremony served as the concluding event of the centenary initiative and brought together eminent legal experts, tax professionals, policymakers, and thought leaders to reflect on the profession’s evolution and discuss the future of the legal and taxation ecosystem.

As part of the celebrations, CTC conferred honorary membership upon some of the country’s most respected legal minds. The distinguished honorees included Justice R.V. Easwar (Retd.), a renowned jurist and former judge; Senior Advocate Saurabh Soparkar; and Senior Advocate Percy Pardiwala. Senior Advocate Arvind Datar, who was unable to attend due to prior travel commitments, accepted the honour virtually.

These legal stalwarts have made remarkable contributions to jurisprudence, constitutional law, taxation, legal scholarship, and professional excellence. Their work has not only influenced legal interpretation and policy development but has also played a significant role in strengthening India’s judicial and professional institutions.

The event highlighted the importance of preserving the values of integrity, knowledge, and public service that have guided the legal and taxation professions over the decades.

Speaking on the occasion, Chartered Accountant Anish Thakkar, moderator of the session focused on the proposed New Tax Code, emphasized the broader significance of Shatabdi Manthan.

“Shatabdi Manthan was much more than a commemorative celebration. It provided an opportunity to reflect upon the principles and values that have shaped the profession over the last century. Bringing together legal experts and professional leaders created a platform for meaningful dialogue, learning, and inspiration for future generations,” he said.

The event also featured insightful discussions on emerging challenges and opportunities within India’s taxation framework. Senior Advocate Rafique Dada and former Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCCIT) Malati Sridharan participated as distinguished panellists, sharing practical perspectives on the implementation of proposed reforms and the evolving regulatory landscape.

A key highlight of the gathering was the emphasis on thought leadership and institutional responsibility in an increasingly complex economic environment.

CA Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company Limited, underscored the critical role of trusted institutions and ethical professionals in supporting India’s long-term economic growth.

“India’s progress will depend on institutions and professionals who uphold trust, accountability, and long-term vision. Organizations like CTC, which have consistently invested in professional excellence and knowledge-sharing for a century, play a vital role in shaping responsible leadership and sustainable growth,” he remarked.

Founded with a mission to advance professional education and excellence, the Chamber of Tax Consultants has spent the last hundred years serving as a platform for knowledge dissemination, policy discussions, and professional development. Through seminars, conferences, publications, and advocacy initiatives, the institution has contributed significantly to the growth and modernization of India’s tax and legal professions.

The centenary initiative, Shatabdi Manthan, was designed to draw upon the institution’s rich legacy while fostering discussions around future challenges and opportunities. By bringing together experts from diverse professional backgrounds, the initiative sought to encourage collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

The Honorary Membership Conferment Ceremony not only celebrated individual achievements but also reaffirmed CTC’s enduring commitment to promoting excellence, ethical leadership, and intellectual advancement within the legal and taxation ecosystem.

As the Chamber of Tax Consultants enters its second century, the organization remains dedicated to nurturing professional talent, supporting policy discourse, and contributing meaningfully to the development of India’s legal, financial, and taxation framework.
