Jaipur-Based Director Khushal S. Rathore Makes Bollywood Debut with ‘Common Aadmi’
Jaipur: Jaipur-based director Khushal S. Rathore is set to make his Bollywood directorial debut with Common Aadmi, a subject-driven film that brings the professional and personal journey of Chartered Accountant (CA) Devendra Jain to the big screen.
Produced under the banner of Aritra Das Creation, the film is produced by Aritra Das, with Ram Kamal Mukherjee serving as the Creative Producer. The film is based on the life and journey of Devendra Jain and is a biopic inspired by Mukherjee’s book Common Aadmi.
The film focuses on the professional responsibilities, challenges and experiences of a Chartered Accountant while also exploring the relatively less-discussed subject of scam recovery.
According to director Khushal S. Rathore, the distinctive aspect of Common Aadmi lies in its subject and narrative focus. While several Bollywood films have explored scams and financial fraud, the film shifts attention towards the recovery of funds following a major financial scam.
The story revolves around the recovery of an ₹8,000-crore scam and seeks to take audiences through the processes and challenges involved in such a recovery. According to the makers, this aspect of financial cases has received comparatively limited cinematic attention.
Exploring the Journey from CA to Liquidator
Common Aadmi also attempts to present the professional journey of a Chartered Accountant in detail. The film explores the responsibilities associated with the profession and the different stages of a CA’s career.
A key element of the story is the transition from CA to liquidator. Through the narrative, the film introduces audiences to the role of a liquidator and the responsibilities associated with the position, particularly in situations involving financial crises and companies facing complex financial circumstances.
The film follows an individual whose professional responsibilities take him into the complexities of a major financial case and the subsequent process of recovering the funds involved.
By bringing together the themes of chartered accountancy, scam recovery and liquidation, Common Aadmi seeks to offer audiences a perspective on a professional journey that has received relatively limited representation in mainstream Hindi cinema.
28-Day Shoot Across Bhopal and Mumbai
The film was shot across Bhopal and Mumbai, with the entire production completed over a 28-day shooting schedule. The film has been made at an estimated budget of approximately ₹8 crore and has been conceived for a theatrical release.
The official release date of Common Aadmi has not yet been announced. However, according to the makers, the film is planned for release in cinemas by April.
The film features an ensemble cast comprising Anujj Anil Sharma, Shrija Dutta, Bijendra Kala, Rituparna Sengupta, Sonali Kulkarni, Anurag Arora, Gyanendra Tripathi, Alka Amin and influencer Surbhi Palaria in prominent roles.
With Common Aadmi, Khushal S. Rathore is making his entry into Bollywood with a story that combines the world of Chartered Accountancy with financial recovery and liquidation. The film seeks to bring the lesser-explored professional journey of a CA to mainstream cinema while placing the recovery of a major financial scam at the centre of its narrative.
