"Nobody Gets Work Sitting Idle": Anupama Prakash Opens Up About Struggles, Networking, and Survival in the Entertainment Industry
Actress and producer Anupama Prakash believes that talent alone is not enough to build a lasting career in the entertainment industry. Known for projects such as Prabha Ki Diary, Farzi Kaka, Risknamaa, and her recent ventures under Kaccha Lemmon Productions, the actress says persistence, networking, and the willingness to keep showing up are equally important for long-term success.
Speaking candidly about the realities of finding work, Anupama shared that many actors hesitate to approach producers, directors, and casting professionals despite having years of experience. According to her, this hesitation is not always driven by ego but often by the belief that established work should speak for itself.
"It’s not always about ego. Sometimes experienced actors feel they’ve already done good work and don’t want to approach people for smaller opportunities. But nobody gets work sitting idle. You have to reach out to producers, directors and casting professionals," she said.
Reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the entertainment business, Anupama acknowledged that rejection and disappointment are inevitable. She believes aspiring artists must be prepared for countless meetings that may never lead to work while continuing to stay motivated.
"You’ll meet good people and bad people. Even after doing 100 meetings, maybe only two will lead to genuine work. But you still have to continue because this industry demands persistence," she explained.
The actress also highlighted the growing importance of networking in today's entertainment landscape. While talent remains the foundation of any successful career, she feels visibility and professional relationships often determine whether opportunities reach an actor in the first place.
"Talent alone is not enough. If people don’t know you or your work, then what’s the use of talent? Networking plays a huge role," she said.
Discussing the role of social media in modern casting, Anupama noted that self-promotion has become an essential part of an actor's journey. She understands that many performers struggle with rejection, anxiety, and disappointment after failed auditions or projects that never materialise. However, she believes consistency is the only way to remain relevant.
"Many actors go through rejection, depression and fear after failed projects or broken agreements. But if you stop trying, you have to begin from zero again. You have to keep posting, auditioning and showing your work," she added.
Anupama also reflected on the fleeting nature of fame in the entertainment industry. According to her, popularity can change rapidly, making it essential for artists to continue learning, improving, and actively seeking new opportunities.
"One year an actor becomes famous and the next year people don’t even see them anywhere. The industry moves very fast. If you keep working and improving, opportunities will keep coming," she said.
Beyond acting, Anupama has expanded her creative journey through her production house, Kaccha Lemmon Productions, which has been gaining attention for projects such as Band Baaja Aafat and Mr. Reddy. As both an actor and producer, she continues to explore new avenues while encouraging aspiring performers to remain resilient, proactive, and committed to their craft.
