Mohammed Nagaman Lateef: Parents Must Not Pressure Children into Marriage
Balaji Telefilms executive Mohammed Nagaman Lateef condemns the Pune murder case, urging parents to avoid forcing marriages and emphasising open communication, consent, and emotional well-being in relationships.
Mumbai — The tragic Pune murder case continues to spark intense nationwide debate on issues of consent, family pressure, and emotional health in relationships. Adding his voice to the conversation, Indian media entrepreneur and entertainment executive Mohammed Nagaman Lateef, who serves as Talent Head at Balaji Telefilms, described the incident as profoundly heartbreaking while calling for greater understanding and informed decision-making in marriages.
In his initial reaction, Lateef expressed deep sorrow. “My first thought was, how can a girl do this to a guy who loved her the most? It is heartbreaking to even imagine. A young life has been lost, and many other lives have been destroyed because of one terrible decision. It is a tragedy for everyone involved,” he said.
Addressing the broader societal conversation around family expectations, Lateef firmly opposed any form of coercion. “Parents should never pressure their daughters to marry someone they don’t want to marry. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and people should have the freedom to choose a partner who truly makes them happy. A relationship built under pressure is never healthy,” he emphasised.
He highlighted the critical role of open communication within families. “Yes, open communication is extremely important. When families create a space where children can speak honestly without fear of being judged, many problems can be resolved before they become serious. Good communication makes life much easier for everyone,” Lateef noted.
