5 Lakh Saplings to Transform Gadchiroli’s Green Future
Surjagarh Ispat and MIAM Charitable Trust hand over 500,000 saplings to Maharashtra government, advancing the Green Gadchiroli Mission with community involvement, women’s employment, and environmental conservation.
Mumbai: In the face of escalating climate challenges and rising temperatures, a significant environmental initiative is taking root in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, offering hope for a greener and more sustainable future. Surjagarh Ispat Private Limited and MIAM Charitable Trust have come together to support the Green Gadchiroli Mission by dedicating 500,000 saplings to the state government, marking a substantial step toward expanding forest cover and strengthening ecological balance in the region.
The ambitious plan was formally presented during a special meeting in Mumbai by Neeta Joshi, founder of MIAM Charitable Trust and Director of Surjagarh Ispat Private Limited, to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This large-scale contribution goes beyond a simple tree-planting drive. It represents a comprehensive mission that weaves together nature conservation, livelihood generation, and broader social development goals for one of the state’s vulnerable districts.
Gadchiroli, known for its rich biodiversity and significant tribal population, stands to benefit immensely from this green push. The 500,000 saplings are expected to play a crucial role in increasing the area’s green cover, preserving local biodiversity, and building greater resilience against climate change impacts. Officials and stakeholders view the initiative as a timely response to environmental concerns that affect both local communities and the wider ecosystem.
A standout feature of the Green Gadchiroli Mission is its strong emphasis on community participation. Local residents are actively involved in the production, plantation, and ongoing maintenance of the saplings, ensuring the project’s long-term success and ownership at the grassroots level. This inclusive approach has already generated meaningful employment opportunities for more than 200 women while opening new livelihood avenues for hundreds of tribal families in the region.
