Mumbai: On the occasion of World Music Day, internationally recognized Indian-origin designer Anjali Phougat opened up about her deep connection with music, describing it as an essential force that influences her creativity, emotional well-being, and everyday life.

Based in the United States and known for her achievements in the fashion and design industry, Anjali shared how music serves as more than just entertainment. For her, it is a source of energy, healing, and self-discovery that accompanies her through every stage of life.

Reflecting on her relationship with music, Anjali explained that it has always played a significant role in her personal and professional journey. Whether she is creating designs, traveling, meditating, or simply taking time to reflect, music remains a constant presence that helps her stay connected to her inner self.

According to Anjali, music functions as an “inner alignment tool,” enabling her to shift her mindset and emotions whenever needed. She believes that the right melodies have the power to transform chaos into calmness, fatigue into inspiration, and uncertainty into clarity.

The designer revealed that she is particularly drawn to soulful, devotional, and fusion music. Her musical preferences include a harmonious blend of Indian classical traditions, Sufi compositions, and contemporary sounds that carry emotional depth and spiritual resonance. She believes that music with meaning and authenticity creates a stronger connection with listeners and leaves a lasting impact.

Discussing the songs that instantly uplift her mood, Anjali mentioned devotional compositions such as Shiv Kailashon Ke Vasi and mantra-based musical pieces that energize and inspire her. Among Bollywood songs, she highlighted Ilahi as one of her favorites, noting that its spirit of freedom and exploration resonates deeply with her.

When asked about her preferred genre, Anjali expressed a strong affinity for devotional fusion and Sufi music. She explained that these genres allow her to connect with something beyond the ordinary, creating a sense of grounding while simultaneously encouraging emotional and spiritual expansion.

Despite her love for devotional music, Bollywood music also remains an important part of her playlist. She enjoys listening to Bollywood songs during travel and creative work sessions, appreciating the genre’s ability to blend storytelling, emotion, and nostalgia in a way that connects with audiences across generations.

Anjali also shared her admiration for acclaimed playback singer Arijit Singh, whom she considers one of her favorite contemporary voices. She praised his emotional depth and ability to make every lyric feel deeply personal. At the same time, she expressed immense respect for the legendary late singer Lata Mangeshkar, describing her voice as timeless and spiritually uplifting.

Among the songs that hold special memories for her, Anjali highlighted Tum Prem Ho by singer Mohit Lalwani. The track, she revealed, reminds her of a transformative phase of self-reflection, emotional growth, and personal evolution.

Currently, her playlist is dominated by meditation chants, Sufi compositions, instrumental fusion tracks, Shiva mantra-based soundscapes, and soothing blends of piano and sitar. These musical choices reflect her preference for sounds that inspire mindfulness, peace, and creativity.

Summing up her relationship with music, Anjali emphasized that music is not merely something she listens to—it is something she experiences deeply and integrates into her creative process. For her, music influences not only emotions but also artistic expression, becoming an invisible yet powerful force behind her work and personal journey.

As World Music Day celebrates the universal language of sound, Anjali Phougat’s reflections serve as a reminder of music’s ability to heal, inspire, and connect individuals with their deepest emotions and aspirations.
