Pallavi Chatterjee on Loneliness and Finding Real Friends in Today’s World
Actress Pallavi Chatterjee opens up about loneliness in modern life, the importance of genuine friendships, and her old-school approach to meaningful connections amid her busy acting career.
In a world where India has ranked as the second loneliest country according to recent surveys, actress Pallavi Chatterjee offers a heartfelt perspective on the challenges of forming authentic connections. When asked about the last time someone genuinely inquired about her well-being and waited for an honest reply, she reflected deeply on the state of relationships today.
“Only my close friends ask me, ‘How am I?’ Real people, real relationships, real well-wishers, and real friends and friendship are missing from our lives,” she observed. Pallavi highlighted how fear of vulnerability often prevents people from opening up. “We are scared to unmask, show our vulnerability to anyone, or speak our mind out. We keep protecting ourselves all the time from getting harmed, hurt, or being misrepresented. So, in the process, you start holding yourself back and not reveal your own self,” she explained.
While acknowledging the value of meaningful conversations, she noted that they do not always eliminate feelings of isolation. “Of course, meaningful conversations and relationships are always great, but that doesn't stop you from being lonely. Finding the ‘REAL’ people or friends is hard in today’s time. Someone may have hundreds of contacts and still feel completely alone,” she said. However, Pallavi considers herself fortunate to have a small circle of unconditional friends who remain steadfastly supportive.
