Chetna Pande on Life’s Dark Phase Preparing Her for Sunheri Role

For actress Chetna Pande, stepping into the role of Sunheri in Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past transcended a typical acting assignment. The character arrived during one of the most challenging periods of her personal life, transforming the experience into a deeply cathartic and authentic performance. Pande’s reflections reveal how life’s trials can unexpectedly fuel artistic expression.

Opening up about her preparation, Pande shared a profound perspective: “I honestly feel life prepared me for this role more than anything else. When I started shooting the film, I was going through a very difficult phase personally. I was emotionally shattered and mentally disturbed.” She believes in the larger design behind such hardships. “Looking back now, I believe everything happens for a reason. Sometimes life puts you through hardships because it is preparing you for something meaningful, even if you don’t realise it at that moment.”

The emotional weight she carried during production naturally infused her portrayal of Sunheri. “The most emotional and challenging period of my life happened at the same time we were shooting this film. In many ways, my own journey reflected Sunheri’s journey,” Pande explained. “I didn’t have to search for emotions because I was living them every single day. I simply drew from my own experiences and channelled all that pain into the character. Whatever I was feeling inside became a part of Sunheri’s story, and that made the performance very honest for me.”

This raw connection between her real-life struggles and the character added layers of sincerity that are often difficult to achieve through conventional methods alone. Pande’s honesty underscores the intersection of personal healing and professional craft in the acting world.

Her decision to join the project was swift, driven primarily by the opportunity to collaborate with acclaimed director Vikram Bhatt. “The moment I heard that Mr. Vikram Bhatt was directing the film, I was excited,” she recalled. Bhatt’s reputation in Indian horror cinema, particularly through the landmark film Haunted, was a major draw. “He has been one of the biggest names in Indian horror cinema and has created films that audiences still remember. He introduced a different style of horror, and Haunted became one of the landmark horror films in India. Even today, people continue talking about it, its music, and its story. That kind of impact is very rare.”

Pande also reflected on the rarity of creating enduring stories in today’s content-saturated environment. “Today, people’s attention spans have become so short that many don’t even finish watching a small video. In such a time, for a film to remain in people’s hearts for years is something truly special,” she observed. “That only happens when a story genuinely connects with audiences. I think that’s the kind of magic Haunted created, and it’s the reason people still remember it with so much love.”

Her insights highlight the lasting power of narratives that resonate emotionally. For Chetna Pande, Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past represents more than a film credit — it stands as a personal milestone where vulnerability met creativity. By channeling her darkest phase into Sunheri’s story, she delivered a performance rooted in genuine emotion.

This chapter in her career illustrates resilience and the transformative potential of art. As audiences revisit or discover the film, Pande’s experience serves as a reminder that sometimes the most challenging times pave the way for meaningful artistic contributions. Her journey with the role offers inspiration for anyone navigating personal difficulties while pursuing their craft.
