Dhruvee Haldankar Embraces Reinvention Through Writing and Digital Space

Mumbai: Actress Dhruvee Haldankar has always believed in evolving with changing times, but always on her own terms. After carving a distinct space for herself across journalism, television anchoring, and acting, she is now confidently stepping into a new chapter as an author while actively exploring fresh opportunities in the digital entertainment space.

Having made a notable impression in Ekta Kapoor’s Pyar Ke Saath Vachan Dharam Patni on Colors TV, Dhruvee admits that the fast-evolving entertainment industry prompted her to pause and reassess her creative path. “After a lot of contemplating, I realised television has evolved tremendously,” she shared. “Many actors are now moving towards vertical series, and I wanted to explore that space too.”

She recently shot a couple of vertical episodes—an experience she found refreshing and creatively fulfilling. The shorter-format shoots offered her a different rhythm and artistic satisfaction compared to traditional television schedules.

Interestingly, acting was not Dhruvee’s first professional calling. She began her career in journalism and television anchoring, working with reputed platforms like CNN International and HomeShop18. The transition into acting came from a deeply personal dream. “I’ve wanted to be an actress since I was three years old,” she revealed with a smile, adding that the desire had always been a part of her.

Growing up in a creatively rich environment played a significant role in shaping her instincts. Her father, veteran cinematographer Deepak Haldankar, introduced her early to the world of lights, lenses, and visual storytelling. Without any formal acting training, Dhruvee relied on her natural flair for performance and the organic learning that came from constant exposure and keen observation.

Tired of being typecast in nurturing, motherly roles, Dhruvee is keen to take on more layered and unconventional characters. “I would love to headline a strong series on platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video — maybe as a protagonist or even a layered, unpredictable lover,” she said, expressing her desire for bold, unpredictable roles that challenge her range.

In addition to her screen ambitions, Dhruvee has successfully ventured into the literary world. She has completed her debut book—a heartfelt biography of her father, veteran cinematographer Deepak Haldankar. The book, titled Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear, was recently launched at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Mumbai, marking a deeply emotional and meaningful milestone in her journey.

The project allowed her to celebrate her father’s legacy while discovering a new facet of her own creative expression. Writing the book brought her closer to understanding the silent brilliance of technicians who shape cinema from behind the lens.
