Mumbai: Singer Parleen Gill, who rose to prominence as a finalist on Indian Idol, believes that constant evolution and experimentation are essential for artists to remain relevant in today’s fast-changing entertainment landscape.

In a heartfelt conversation, Parleen reflected on the noticeable shift in how audiences engage with performers. “There has definitely been a noticeable shift,” he said. “Earlier, audiences expressed their appreciation mostly through applause, letters, or ratings, but today they openly share their opinions on social media and other platforms.”

The singer views this change as largely positive. Direct feedback allows artists to better understand what emotionally connects with people and what they expect. For me, the key is to stay open to learning and constantly work on my craft while still staying rooted in the emotions and authenticity that connect with people.”

The instant nature of feedback in the digital age brings both opportunities and challenges, especially for someone like Parleen who regularly performs live. “The instant feedback that we get today can be both exciting and challenging,” he shared. “On one hand, it’s wonderful because you get to know instantly if something has touched people’s hearts. On the other hand, it also means that opinions can be very quick and sometimes harsh.”

Parleen advised maintaining a balanced approach: listen to constructive criticism but protect the creative process from being derailed by fleeting reactions. “Ultimately, good work takes patience and consistency,” he added.

They notice finer details in performances, storytelling, and emotional depth. “This actually motivates artists to put in more effort and be more sincere with their work,” Parleen said. “For me, it’s a reminder to always give my best and choose projects that have depth and authenticity rather than just focusing on trends.”
