Mumbai: Actor Shivani Gosain, known for her role in Rangbaazi Dilon Ki, has expressed deep concern over the mental resilience of today’s youth, emphasising that a strong mindset from an early age is essential to navigate life’s inevitable challenges with ease and grace.

While acknowledging that young people today excel in technology and many other areas, Shivani believes they often struggle when it comes to handling personal difficulties and accepting outcomes. “If these people are strong in technology, then mentally they are not that strong,” she observed. “What we learned in our time from our parents and our elders, today’s children are not able to learn how to be strong during struggling days or when you face a problem. They just quickly get depressed.”

She noted with sadness that many youngsters turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as addiction when faced with setbacks, instead of leveraging their strengths in a positive direction. “They go into the wrong ways to try and fix it, like addiction and depression. This is very sad,” she said.

Shivani described today’s youth as both sorted in many ways and yet emotionally sensitive and fragile. “They feel that if they cannot endure a certain situation, then life is over,” she remarked, adding that this is not limited to the younger generation but applies to people across all ages and walks of life.

“If your mindset is strong from the beginning, then you will handle everything very lightly and easily,” she explained. “But if you are not mentally strong, then it is very difficult in any part of your life — not just in your career, but anywhere.”

She gave relatable examples: surviving at your in-laws’ house or thriving in a competitive workplace with many colleagues requires inner strength. “You have to be very strong in your mind. I believe your mental health must be very strong along with your physical health,” Shivani stressed.

When asked about the habits and mindsets that helped her during her own early struggles in the industry, Shivani pointed to two simple yet powerful qualities she has carried since childhood. “I always say one thing: only patience and positivity,” she shared. “Since childhood, I have learned from my father and mother that you have to be very patient. You cannot expect everything to happen today, or for your work to be done in a split second.”

She emphasised the importance of understanding that everything has its own time. “When you get these things sorted out in your mind, then I think you have already won half the battle of your life,” she said.

Shivani also highlighted the need to consciously cultivate positivity, especially in an environment where negativity and criticism can come easily. “Until you bring positivity into your mind, you will be surrounded by negative thoughts, because people are there to pull your leg any day, whether you are doing right or wrong,” she warned. “So, be positive and be happy. Being happy is also very important in life because without inner happiness, you will feel very lonely and helpless.”

This mindset, nurtured from a young age, has helped Shivani pull through even her toughest days. Her message is clear and heartfelt: mental strength, patience, and a positive outlook are not optional but essential tools for a fulfilling life, both personally and professionally.

In an industry known for its highs and lows, Shivani Gosain’s reflections serve as a timely reminder for aspiring actors and young people alike. By prioritising mental well-being alongside talent and ambition, individuals can face setbacks with resilience and continue moving forward with grace. Her own journey stands as a quiet testimony to the power of patience, positivity, and an unshakable inner strength.
