Sunil Sharma Calls Dhurandhar a Major Career Milestone
Actor Sunil Sharma opens up about bagging the role of Shaukat in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar and its sequel, starring Ranveer Singh. He credits destiny, a timely beard transformation, and director’s faith for this career-defining opportunity.
Mumbai, March 2026 – For actor Sunil Sharma, landing the role of Shaukat in Aditya Dhar’s much-talked-about action franchise Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge has become a defining chapter in his Bollywood journey. The film, which features Ranveer Singh in the lead role alongside a powerhouse ensemble including Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Akshaye Khanna, has left a lasting impression on the actor who sees it as more than just another project.
Speaking about the experience, Sunil Sharma described the franchise as a significant milestone. “I believe everything happens for a reason, and in many ways, it does feel like Dhurandhar was meant to be,” he shared. “Sometimes, the right role finds you at the right moment, and Dhurandhar feels exactly like that.”
The path to securing the role, however, was not straightforward. Sunil revealed that he was initially called by casting director Mukesh Chhabra for a look test. At that time, he did not have much of a beard. After waiting for nearly a month without a positive response, he decided to meet Mukesh Chhabra in person. By then, his appearance had changed significantly due to a South Indian film project he was working on, where he had grown a full beard.
“When I met Mukesh sir, he liked my look, and then I did the look test again. That’s when they offered me the role,” Sunil recalled. Once finalized, he was informed about the film’s prestigious team — director Aditya Dhar and the stellar cast that included Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Akshaye Khanna. “I was amazed and accepted the opportunity immediately,” he added.
Sunil expressed deep gratitude towards both Aditya Dhar and Mukesh Chhabra for believing in him. “Aditya sir is very supportive. Despite having such a big unit, everything went so smoothly. I am grateful to Aditya Sir and Mukesh Chhabra Sir,” he said warmly.
In the film, Sunil’s character Shaukat is part of the gang led by Hamza Ali Mazari, played by Ranveer Singh. The actor shared that his primary focus was to bring authenticity to the role. “On a practical level, I focused on body language, dialogue delivery, and subtle expressions to make Shaukat feel authentic,” he explained. “There were also rehearsals and discussions that helped refine each scene.”
Interestingly, despite having limited dialogues, Sunil found the experience deeply fulfilling. He remembered Aditya Dhar’s valuable advice during the shoot: “He had told me at that time that dialogues aren’t necessary all the time. The way you act in a scene matters the most.” Sunil took this guidance to heart and was pleased with the final outcome. “I enjoyed my work, and when I saw myself on screen, I was very happy,” he said.
Working with such an accomplished ensemble cast proved to be a learning experience as well. Sunil particularly highlighted the impact of observing Akshaye Khanna on set. “From Akshaye sir, one of the biggest takeaways was his incredible restraint and control. Watching him, I learned how powerful silence and minimalism can be on screen,” he noted.
For Sunil Sharma, Dhurandhar represents more than box-office success or star power. It stands as a testament to timing, persistence, and the belief that the right opportunity eventually finds its way. The actor’s journey — from an uncertain look test to becoming part of one of Bollywood’s high-profile action franchises — highlights how destiny, preparation, and professional support can align to create meaningful career moments.
As the franchise continues to resonate with audiences, Sunil Sharma’s contribution as Shaukat adds another layer to the film’s gritty, realistic portrayal of its characters. His experience serves as an inspiring reminder to fellow actors that patience and staying true to one’s craft often lead to the most rewarding roles.
