Somy Ali Nostalgic as Anth Marks 32 Years
Former actress Somy Ali shares throwback memories of her 1994 action film Anth on its 32nd anniversary, highlighting the Filmfare award for Best Action Direction and the inclusive spirit on set.
Former Bollywood actress Somy Ali took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as her 1994 action film Anth completed 32 years. The actress, who now dedicates much of her time to running her NGO No More Tears in the US, shared a heartfelt throwback post on Instagram, celebrating the milestone and the people who made the project special.
Ali posted several vintage stills from the film, including a dynamic action sequence, the prestigious Filmfare trophy, the original poster, and a graphic from the 40th Annual Filmfare Awards. The image highlighted the award for Best Action Direction received by the team. The text accompanying the visuals noted, “Celebrating 32 years of this black beauty Filmfare trophy received from none other than Suniel Shetty for our film ANTH released on 10-6-1994 as BEST ACTION DIRECTOR.”
In her personal caption, Ali expressed gratitude and admiration for the collaborative spirit behind the film. She dedicated the #TBT post to her “fav action king” and co-star Suniel Shetty. What stood out to her most was the respect extended to her character during the action sequences. “What I truly appreciated about this film is that Ravi ji kept me throughout the action sequences along with Suniel despite the fact that in the 90’s era that was solely the male lead’s territory,” she wrote.
Ali further praised the director and team for their progressive approach. “You deserve this award a million times more for depicting respect to a female lead in that era. I thank you, our producer, Ashok Honda, our director @sanjay.khanna and my acting school buddy, Suniel, for including me in those adventurous endeavors,” she added, using hashtags like #mumbaidiaries, #anth, #somyali, and #90s to connect with fans.
